Wisconsin USATF XC Winter Report
(Orlando, FL 12/3/2016)  Peter Henkes, director of the Wisconsin Runner Racing Team, was appointed vice chair of the USATF Cross Country Council Executive Committee at the USATF Annual Meeting.
(Edinburgh, United Kingdom 1/7/2017)  Wisconsin was well represented on Team USA at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country Challenge in January. University of Wisconsin signee Seth Hirsch placed 4th (19:38) and Madison’s Finn Gessner (also headed to UW in the fall) finished 15th (20:12) in the Junior Men’s 6K race. Team USA won the Junior Men’s Title with 17 points (scoring 4 runners), followed by Europe with 20 points and Great Britain with 42 points.
            UW frosh Alicia Monson from Amery was the second Team USA woman to cross the finish line in the Junior Women’s event. Alicia covered the 4K course in 14:16. Team USA edged Great Britain 23 to 24, with Europe placing third with 34 points.
            The overall team championship was determined by combining the junior team scores with the senior team scores. Team USA women tallied 72 points (scoring 6) to place third behind Europe with 28 points and Great who also scored 72 points.
            The Senior Team USA senior men, led by individual champion Lenny Kipor, dominated their race scoring 37 points, well ahead of Europe and Great Britain, which both scored 70 points.  Team USA edged Team Europe149-152 for the overall team title. Wisconsin Runner Racing Team mentor Peter Henkes was head men’s coach for Team USA.
(Bend, OR 2/4/2017) Aubrey Roberts, a Northwestern University freshman from Eau Claire, finished second in 22:42 in the Junior Women’s 6k race of the USATF National XC Championships. University of Wisconsin freshman Alicia Monson from Amery placed third in 22:48. Both ladies qualified for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Kampala, Uganda on March 26th; Aubrey will be competing in the championships, while Alicia is bypassing the event to concentrate on her upcoming outdoor track season.
